Public university students lag behind in sports and culture.
At one time, public university students dominated the sports and cultural arena of the country. However, the teachers, students and cultural workers of the university think that this environment is shrinking day by day. This image was seen at the third edition of the recently concluded Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Championship. Daffodil International University, a private university, won the honor of championing university participation. And six of the top 10 universities in the medal list are private universities.
At one time, public university students ruled the country's television, drama, film and music industry. The best artists of the country have studied in some public university. Now comparatively it is less and day by day this number is going down. Compared to that, the dominance of private university students is increasing in the entertainment arena. Uncertain careers in sports and cultural arenas, increased interest in government jobs and their presence in these two arenas are felt to be decreasing.

The difference between public universities and private universities is made here. According to the university sources, the news published in the media at various times, and the information of Wikipedia, it can be seen that most of the famous faces in the entertainment industry are currently students of private universities.

Almost all of them are acting regularly in the media. But education stops at a certain level. As the busyness increased so did the education race. Although there are many universities with many names, they are not regular.
On the other hand, cultural organizations are said to be the lifeblood of the campus. The more well-organized the cultural organization of the university, the more vibrant the campus. But social and cultural organizations of public universities are becoming lifeless day by day due to lack of funds and patronage. As there is no special allocation from the university, the organizations are trying to get hands in various places. Due to this, artists are not produced from the university. Although there is a possibility, many people join the job quickly to support the family. He started job preparation before the end of his education.
Mehdi Mamun, member secretary of Jahangirnagar University's literary organization 'Chirkut', told The Daily Campus that students' interest in cultural organizations has decreased due to various reasons after the Corona epidemic. One of the reasons is the increasing concern about financial and career security among students. However, he thinks that it will not be difficult to overcome if the university authorities help.
Former President of Dhaka University Cultural Society Hillol Shikhar Samaddar told The Daily Campus that TSC-centric organizations are not sponsored by the university authorities. Dhaksu was active when I was president. There were many events in TSSC then. Cultural activities continued in the campus as there were opportunities to practice and exhibit. This trend stopped after Dhaksu became inactive. It is not always possible for organizations to organize events and practice with their own money. He hopes that this problem will be solved if Daksu is operational.
However, blaming the career-oriented studies of students as the biggest reason for this backwardness, he said, many talented students still come. They are active till 1st-2nd year but later start preparing for job. After that they are no longer found. Career in sports and cultural arena is uncertain so no one wants to take risk.
President of Dhaka University Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Joydeep Bhattacharya told The Daily Campus, "If we look at past history, we can see that cultural practices are accelerated through agitations and protests against the rulers. Now it is not giving the opportunity to do that movement. Cultural practice is a matter of diversity. It is not possible without a democratic environment in the campus. Since the anti-dictatorship movement of the 90s, student council elections are not held on campuses. It has since declined. For this, a democratic environment should be created in the campus.
Dhaka University Chhatra League Cultural Secretary Vivek Anup said that Chhatra League has always been and will always be on the side of TSC-centric organizations. We try to help financially when they do any event. Taking permission for the event, we ensure security. When Chhatra League organizes any event, it organizes these organizations along with it. Chhatra League always conducts some activities to keep TSC free from the hands of fundamentalists.
However, this BCL leader admitted the lack of funds. He said, when Daksu was active, there were many events. TSSC was always crowded then. Students' demands are not being presented to the senate due to Daksu's inactivity. However, we present the demands of these organizations at various teachers' events.
Professor Kamrur Hasan Mamun of Dhaka University's Physics Department told The Daily Campus that once upon a time, DU's TSC was the heart of cultural practices in the country. Since the decline of cultural practices in TSC, there has been a collapse in the cultural arena in the country. Dhaka University Students Union (DHASU) used to organize various programs at TSC. Cultural Secretary of Daksur used to manage cultural activities across the country including the university. Back then, student politics worked for the welfare of students. Dhaksu is not active yet. Student politics is also on a different path so these activities have decreased in the university.
Highlighting the weakness of the university administration, he said that the university administration does not give any importance to co-operation. Does not sponsor these organizations. So cultural practices in DU are coming down to zero. Meanwhile, no one is paying attention. Students also lost interest. On entering the 2nd year, the toppers of the class thought of going abroad and the rest ran after BCS. Everyone went to the library and memorized the job.
He also said that the environment of TSC has to be changed. Big auditorium should be made. Opportunities should be increased. The most important Dhaksu should be mobilized. These activities should be conducted under the supervision of Dhaksu. As it used to be in the past. Cultural activities cannot be partisan.
However, Jahangirnagar University's drama and playwriting department professor Rashid Haroon told The Daily Campus that public university students are still going everywhere in the cultural arena. Behind the scenes in television, drama, movies, everyone is a public university student. Where are they going to study these subjects from our universities? He is also working in this field.
He also said, it is said that those who led the entertainment arena in the past were mostly public university students. Because there was no private university then. But now private university students have also progressed. Usually those who have money mostly study in these universities. They have money and are coming to this arena as a hobby. Most of those who attend public universities are children of lower, lower middle class families. There is a family pressure on them so they have to run after the job right from their education. For this reason, if you lose interest in working in this field.
Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir told The Daily Campus, I agree with this. In some years, the presence of public university students in the cultural arena decreased. This crisis was created due to the spread of bad culture, fundamentalist politics in the campuses.
He also said that the world is changing as the reason for students' cultural aversion. Everything is changing fast so comparing the past with the present will not do. In this age of sky culture, students are also leaning towards different cultures. But one of the reasons is BCS jobs. Students are moving away from these while studying BCS. After realizing this, we have started cultural practices again. As before, various cultural activities have been started in the universities.
However, the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University denied this claim. Md. Aktaruzzaman told The Daily Campus that our students are not lagging behind. Moving forward in all areas. DU students are scattered in all social and cultural fields.

But today that tradition no longer exists.Even though there is a rule of admitting students in the player quota by scrutinizing only the students from BKSP, no one has been coming from the sports institute for several years. However, those who have contributed to the sports arena by getting admission, all of them have got the opportunity to get admission based on their merit and merit. In addition, in 2014, the player quota was revised in the university syndicate; If a student gets 48 in the entrance test then the quota will be effectively recommended for him. But no student of BKSP could get admission by fulfilling the quota conditions.
